- Start anywhere. There are no numbered clues — the chemistry is the clue. Any entry with enough given cells can be balanced on its own.
- Cells are shared. Where an across and a down equation cross, they share a coefficient, an element symbol, or a whole formula. That crossing is the self-check.
- Arrows and plus signs are printed for you, so students are filling in chemistry, not punctuation.
